Fall 2020: A Message from SKSD About Reentry....

SKSD is transitioning from virtual learning to 100% in-person learning.  Health and safety drive ALL of our decisions.  We are always guided by all appropriate health and safety precautions and mandates, determined by the Rhode Island Department of Health, Governor's Office, and Centers for Disease Control.

Our leadership team and staff will continue to plan and implement infrastructure, policies, and preparations throughout the summer and next school year that prioritizes student and teacher safety and guide our learning community through a year of challenges, opportunities, and evolving realities.

Our website will provide communication in our current direction during this academic year alongside the Covid-19 virus. It will evolve in depth and scope as new guidelines and additional decisions define our experience.

The best information we have indicates that we should prepare for interruptions to learning, next academic year, due to Covid-19. During those situations, it will be our goal for any student, teacher or all of us to pivot seamlessly to a virtual learning environment.

We are working to be able to support those students who are required to remain out of school due to screening regulations to have the opportunity to virtually learn alongside classmates that are in-person.

We all must be prepared for a year of challenges that require our partnership and flexibility as we navigate inconveniences and uncertainties together.

SKSD VISION for Virtual Learning & Reentry

We are committed to providing every child with rich learning experiences that not only address academics and 21st -century learning but are supportive of the social-emotional needs of our children during this challenging time.

Our Guiding Principle

We believe that this is an opportunity to reimagine schoolbe mindful of and build on what we have learned during our virtual learning, and adjust going forward.

Our Reentry Plan will be based upon the following DESIGN PRINCIPLES FOR LEARNING:

Equity: We will recognize and address biases and inequities and provide opportunities and access for all students to meet and exceed academic and social expectations

System: We will consider all system structures and processes that impact or are impacted by the re-entry actions.  We will use systematic resources, structures, practices, and policies to support our work.

Assessment/Monitoring for Continuous Improvement: We will assess the impact of our plan.  We will use data to inform our decisions, monitor efforts, and develop new knowledge/responses.

Innovation and Flexibility: We will reimagine school incorporating lessons learned from the pandemic experience.  We will rely upon our ability to be flexible, innovative, and fluid while we reimage school for the future.

Capacity Development/Growing Skill and Understanding: We will grow the necessary competencies, dispositions, and resources for individuals and systems to do the work.
